The other day I was checking my layouts on some of my sites to make sure they look good. I feel this is an important step for any site, but especially niche sites as you might not check on them as often. While looking at one of my sites, something strange caught my eye while I was looking at what ads where appearing with my Adsense sections.

I happened to catch this on a screen shot, and it appears to be a scrolling Adsense ad that the user can change what ads appear to them.

One thing I have noticed, not only on this site, but lots of other sites as well, is one way to increase your traffic and activity is to include a forum on your site.

I have included a forum here for members to participate and support each others local niche projects, but a forum is a great way to improve any niche site. And, it isn’t as hard to set up as you would think. Just a simple Wordpress plugin and away you go!

One quick method to get backlinks to your niche site is to use forums. It doesn’t matter what your niche is about, chances are that there is a forum for your niche topic, whether it is specific or broad.

If your niche is a health niche topic and you can’t find a forum for it, try broadening out your search. Let’s say you are working a niche that deals with “why your toes turn purple after taking xyz medicine”. Now, this is not a real niche (at least that I know of) but I hope you can see the point. If you niche is so focused down to a specific topic, there might not be a forum exclusive to that niche.

So, broaden out that niche to a more general related area. In our previous example, dealing with toes, you might want to look for forums dealing with feet problems or the “xyz” medicine in question.

Trust me, most of the forums you will find for your specific niche’s do follow comments and links in the forum posts!

I was reading today about how the Church of Scientology has been “Google-bombed” for the words “dangerous cult” and “brainwashing cult”.

This is really a neat way to look at how anchor text works, because in an effort to get the Scientology website to rank first on Google for those terms, you have to use anchor text. What do I mean?
