What is the Site Build It! Stink About?

Wow, the internet is abuzz with a major uproar in the “Make Money Online” niche. It seems that there is a stink going on with the people that are really learning the methods that make them money for little or no cost, and those that sell products and services to “help” people make money online.

So, what is the stink with Site Build It! (SBI) that is going on now?

Well, Lis has posted a Site Build It Scam Review that has brought out the owner of the company and many of his site “owners” to defend their position of why they charge $300 per year per site to help you learn about how to make money online.

Is this SBI for you? It depends. Many people when first learning or exploring how to earn an income online get curious and start searching, chances are they don’t know that much, if anything, about search engine optimization techniques. The also probably don’t know much about how to set up a hosting account, wordpress or html coding (and some php).

This isn’t bad, but it can open one up to being scammed pretty easily. Now, before I go on, let me say that I am not promoting nor putting down SBI. I don’t own any SBI sites, but I did research them and look into it when I first got started in the internet marketing and make money online sites.

So, is SBI really a scam? From what I can see, the answer depends on how you look at it. Alot of it depends on your comfort level of creating your own sites by hand (hosting, wordpress, etc.) or if you want more of a plug-n-play approach. SBI seems to offer more of a one stop shop with tools, website templates, and more that you can use once you set up a domain name.

But, do you really need to shell out $300 per year per site to make money on the internet? I would argue that you don’t and here is why.

You can get a good and reliable hosting account with HostMonster or HostGator for around $5 to $10 per month. This will allow you unlimited websites to be hosted on this account. So, if you pay for a year in advance, you have spent at least $60 for one year of hosting.

With domain names, you would need to purchase them anyways whether you get them for your own hosted domains or an SBI account, so the price is awash in my eyes.

What else does SBI bring to the table? Well from reading some of the comments on the Site Build It Scam Review that Lis wrote, it brings a forum for support. However some of the people that left comments on her site seem less than friendly. Maybe if you are on “their side” they would be willing to help.

I found it funny that when Griz wrote a post to back up Lis about Site Build It – Don’t Buy It! that he was also targeted with the SBI! crowd and had to close off his comments.

It’s a hard decision for anyone to determine what the best method is for themselves to get started when trying to learn how to make money online but from what I can see, you can definitely do it cheaper and have more control over your options if you take a few minutes, research completely your options and learn some of the basics.

If you don’t want to spend $300 per year, per SITE then here are some of the resources that I highly recommend you read and follow:

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and I am not going to jump all over you for being doubtful about SBI. When I first checked it out, I was skeptical too, especially at $299 a year.

However, I tried other things – Wordpress blogs, other hosting, etc. And the sites were pretty…the stats not so much. But I couldn’t figure out why.

Then I broke down and did the SBI thing. My current site is less than 4 months old (went live 12/28/08) and I’m already getting an average of 20 unique visitors a day. I have sign-ups for my ezine, etc. I’ve even started making a little money. Why? Because SBI provided more than a hosting program and a forum.

You see, it is a business building program, more than a site building one. You are taken through an entire process to help you be sure your niche has profit potential. Once you go through this process, you then have all of the tools you need to make income, including autoresponders, ezine capabilities, special file uploading for hosting your freebies (such as PDF files), etc. Not to mention amazing support.

Add to that a forum where the members are friendly (no flaming, no spamming) and willing to share what they’ve learned, and it pays for itself quickly.

I am pleased with SBI, would recommend it to others.

If it’s not for you, that’s fine. I wish you all the success in the world, regardless of who your webhost is.

I didn’t post on Lis’s site because I did find her harsh view unpalatable. Even if you don’t agree with or like something, you don’t have to perpetuate inaccurate information, which her post does (other SBI members pointed these discrepancies out to her). I much prefer your approach.

And I agree to disagree with you both. :)

Myra,

Thanks for your opinions about SBI. The thing I don’t get is that people can set up their own hosting and host unlimited websites for around $6 or so a month cost with companies like HostMonster or Bluehost, etc. plus the cost of a domain name. I do this often times with great success.

The key is that each person has to decide what is best for them. If you like the forums and support that SBI offers, then great and more power to you. However, I find it expensive to pay for that kind of information and support that you can find for free from sites like mine, Courts and Griz’s sites also.

There are lots of resources out there on how to do proper SEO, set up Wordpress and research niche topics and keywords. The key is that there is no easy magic pill to take to start making millions online instantly. It takes learning, patience and putting into practice with some experimentation to find what really works for you.

Let me know if I can offer any advice or help also, and thanks for your kind comments! Best wishes in your online ventures!
